Is it true that women who never marry have less mental health problems than married women?

- Chosen by Voters No it most probably is not true but it depends what you read. You have to be careful because there are a lot of dodgy assertions out there! 1) Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, ETATS-UNISRésumé / AbstractDespite the assumption that marriage enhances psychological well-being, little evidence exists that the social role of marriage, rather than the characteristics of individuals who get married, accounts for the benefits of marriage. We use a sample of 18-, 21-, and 24-year-old men and women who either remained unmarried or got married and remained married over a 7-year period to examine whether, after controlling for premarital rates of disorder, marriage enhances mental health. In addition, we consider whether or not females derive more mental health benefits from marriage than males. The results indicate that, with controls for premarital rates of mental health, young adults who get and stay married do have higher levels of well-being than those who remain single. In addition, although men-but not women-who become married report less depression, women-but not men-who become married report fewer alcohol problems. Thus, when both male-prevalent and female-prevalent outcome measures are used, both men and women benefit from marriageAccording to the research I have quoted below, married men live longer than single men and married women live longer than single women (although the ratio of age difference is much greater in the men).Married people live longer as well. Single men have mortalityrates that are 250% higher than married men. Single womenhave mortality rates that are 50% higher than married women(Ross et all, 1990). Having a spouse can decrease your risk fordying from cancer as much as knocking ten years off your life.Single people spend longer in the hospital, and have a greaterrisk of dying after surgery (Goodwin et al, 1987).Married women are 30% more likely to rate their health asexcellent or very good compared to single women, and 40% lesslikely to rate their health as only fair or poor compared to singlewomen. Based on life expectancies, nine of ten married menand women alive at age 48 are alive at 65, while only six of tensingle men and eight of ten single women make it to 65. Marriedmen may have better immune systems as well, either fromsupport or from nagging to monitor blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, etc…etc… and may be at less risk to catch colds (Cohen etal, 1997) Source(s): http://jfi.sagepub.com/content/23/8/885http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cp…http://successfulsingles.com/media_artic…http://74.125.155.132/scholar?q=cache:Km… Edited 10 months ago 100% 1 Vote

What does a mental health crisis team actually do?

- Chosen by Voters A doctor would normally refer you to a CMHT and not a CRISIS TEAM unless you are in immediate danger of suicide.A CRISIS team would first of all talk to you on the phone and see how bad the problem is and they will decide from this call if you require CRISIS support (they are trained to pick up on keywords from their questioning!!) or if it would be beneficial to pass your care onto the CMHT team for assessment the following day. They may give you their phone number so you can get support in the interim of the care been passed to the local Assessment Team.If they decide you need support they will organise a time to come out and assess your mental health and discuss ways to stay safe, if they then decide you need to be admitted they will informally admit you to a unit with available beds, if you are been total bizarre they may decide to formally admit you (against your will) this will be done by a CPN, GP, Social Worker and the Police. 8 months ago 100% 1 Vote

Anybody in UK had to have an ESA medical assessment for mental health?

- Chosen by Voters They will assess how your mental health affects your capability for work. I've met the guy who runs the company carrying out the assessments (ATOS healthcare), his name is klaus broecker, and he talked me through it. Basically, they need to determine whether or not your illness renders you completely incapable for work. They will ask you questions with an aim to finding out whether or not you will be safe at work, and they'll also try and figure out what you can and can't do. So there will be an element of them asking you to bend over and then lift your hands over your head, it's part of their work capability assessment. They will ask you how bad your illness is, for example, have you ever felt or do you feel suicidal? Have you ever or do you ever feel like hurting those around you? Does your illness prevent you from leaving the house? Does your illness make it impossible for you to travel to and from work? etc etc. I will prewarn you that they do not have any doctors who are trained specifically in the field of mental health, and the training they do get is pretty rudimentary. So if you 'fail' this assessment (or pass technically), that might prepare you for an appeal. Also, he said that they place great store on reports received from psychiatrists, CPNs or psychiatric social workers, so if you have one of these, beg them to write you a report on your condition; it does make a difference.Klaus stated that there are a group of people who will be failed by this assessment; they will be considered too well for ESA, and yet too ill for work (and therefore JSA). This means some people will experience a revolving door phenomenon with regard to their benefit. My advice is this; if you are truly severely disabled and unable to do any work, you have nothing to fear. It may just take a while to prove your case. This assessment is not the most comprehensive assessment of mental health available, and you must appeal the decision if you lose, it's the only way they will alter the system.Something like 80 percent of people are now turned down for ESA, so please don't take it personally if you're one of those. If you believe you're in the right, fight to the death, you might just win. When you go for your assessment, remember that they watch you from the minute you enter the building. Just a word of advice. They want to know how your illness affects your ability to work. In my case, the hallucinations and confusion make it unsafe for me to travel to and from work, and for me to associate with the general public when I get there. My compulsion to harm myself is so strong that if I have an episode at work, I cannot be controlled, which means I would be a danger to others. You get the idea, you really have to spell out how your illness makes your life difficult. The questions will be specific to what you wrote on the form, so you must make sure you are conversant with what you've already written.Good luck. 9 months ago 100% 1 Vote

Does having A UTI affects your mental health as well cuz some reason, I feel a lil weird?

- Chosen by Voters Yes they sure can. I am not sure of the mechanism though. But being goofy is like the number one symptom in old people. If you are young, I would suggest look for other possibilities though. Such as altered glucose metabolism, toxemia etc. Source(s): training 1 year ago 100% 1 Vote

I need to find mental health records for court?

- Chosen by Voters I suspect you would have to prove that she is actually incompetent due to her mental illness. For example, I am mentally unstable due to bipolar disorder & am suicidal a lot, but my behavior is impeccable with regard to legal and financial matters. She may have a reason she is trying to do that, and you are not seeing her point of view. Just because she is emotional doesn't mean she is incompetent, even if she is not looking out for her best interests. A lot of people do stupid stuff. Like buy houses when experts say the market is about to collapse.I don't think you could get her records legally. You should consult a lawyer for this. I like to do my own legal stuff with self help books, but this issue is complicated so even though I am a cheapskate, I would still hire a lawyer for advice.I hope things resolve in a good way for all of you. And I wasn't trying to be down on you – she's probably being weird. But I had to cover all the bases. 4 years ago 100% 1 Vote
