- Chosen by Voters Probably Florida would be your best chance. California has virtually no mental health system. Try contacting social security and ask them what boarding homes are listed in that area. The only other thing to do would be to actually go to Florida with enough money to tide you over and search there. 3 years ago 100% 1 Vote

- Chosen by Voters Yes. Psychological health problems can affect you physically. For instance:> Chronic Stress: Heart rate consistently high, high blood pressure, sweating constantly (nervous sweat), low resistance to bacteria/viruses due to weakened immune system, can make you look withdrawn, affects sleeping habits> Addiction: when you are addicted to a substance such as nicotine, and suffering withdrawal symptoms, these are mostly psychological, but can have a serious impact on your actions > Depression: causes you to have restless sleep, causes stress> also, many drugs used to cure psychological problems, have some pretty damaging side effects – addiction, heart palpitations, vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea… the list is long, and unfortunately, no matter what the drug companies tell you, just about all drugs related to psychological disorders – and indeed, most drugs in general, can have serious side effects. If one believes an important job equals gained status than ones self-esteem may get a boost from obtaining such a job. However, that good feeling or raised self-esteem can be very short lived if the competency needed in said job is not exhibited, constantly! One hopes that anyone who moves up the ladder and gets important jobs already possesses or builds a pretty solid self-esteem and thus remains level headed. 4 years ago 1 person rated this as good Thank you.

I don't think there's anybody on earth who can't qualify now. Each person is only capable of using ten percent of their brains. Geniuses can use only 11 or 12 at most. When the mind is handicapped in one area, it compensates in another. I think the psychiatric system in many ways is very elitist and linear. They do a fine job classifying people and deeming some as inadequate. Not to sound arrogant, I think of my own disposition as evolution rather than an impediment. Asperger's is just another perspective on life that the general public has not quite gotten accustomed to yet. 2 years ago You are going to be discovered by someone & end up famous cause you are amazing….I did like the other answers too. Thanks to you all. I hope anyone interested in Asperger's meets Polaris cause is such an inspiration & people need that so much.

- Chosen by Voters No, because of the HIPPA laws regarding confidentiality, and also because of hospital liability if you violate someone's confidentiality, get hurt, or inadvertantly hurt someone. I have been on three psych wards for a total of 6 stays and in NONE of them would a candy striper be anything but a nuisance. At your age and skill level, you lack the barest essentials of being able to help mentally ill people. No offense, and I admire your inclinations and courage. Mentally ill people are treated by a number of complex medications and psychotherapy. Each patient is different. Some are suicidal or angry. Simplistic approaches can make a patient go through the roof.Careers you can look into include psychiatric health nurse, art therapist, counselor in stress management, psychiatrist, psychotherapist, mental health worker, nurse's aide with a specialty in psychiatric wards, or psychiatric social worker.Mental illness is extremely complex. You will not be allowed on a ward until educated and licensed.Keep up the good volunteer work, though!! I'm sure you brighten many a person's day. Best of luck in 2011!! 1 year ago 50% 2 Votes

There are some people who wear their mental health issues as a badge of honor. These people tend to talk about their diagnoses and most troubling/strange symptoms. Having a diagnosis, whatever it is, is used as a reason. 'Oh, I did poorly on that test because I couldn't concentrate because of my depression'… It's kind of an excuse…I try not to be one of those people, but I am very open. If someone asks me a question, I'll answer it honestly. I've been vocal about my OCD in the past and a lot of people know I have issues with psychosis (some know it's schizophrenia). It's a big part of my life so I don't think hiding it is any use.OCD does not have the stigma that schizo does. Depression is usually trivialized in my experience, so I don't share that. People associate depression with either the emo kids or they assume you're just feeling a bit down (not like clinical depression). 1 year ago 1 person rated this as good i agree with all your points and have struggled with psychosis myself so i know what you mean.thanks answerers.

- Chosen by Voters He's just following the party line. That's what they do (all parties)…pull out some old hack in order to try to change the focus. The race card has been played so much that it's really played out with all except the farther left. Everyone else just rolls their eyes at this point. 2 years ago 75% 3 Votes 7 people rated this as good

- Chosen by Voters I'm not too sure about the exact term "hyper-sexuality" but Yes. Many people with mental illnesses have issues with self control. This could lead to accessive drinking, spending and sexual partners. I'm not 100% sure if that's what you're talking about but, yes, my doctor has discussed this with me. 2 years ago 42% 18 Votes 2 people rated this as good
