Mental health support/volunteer opportunities for teens?

- Chosen by Voters First, I'm sorry for your loss. It must be very painful for you, your friends and his family. There are a number of suicide prevention programs, some of which are are staffed by volunteers. You might try a web search for such organizations in your area. There are also a number of organizations that deal with suicide survivors. One is GROWW; you might contact them. Another suggestion I have is to keep in touch with his family; it may feel difficult for you, but the family will very much appreciate it. Keep them in mind on his birthday in the future, on holidays and the anniversary of his death. Don't worry about 'reminding' them; they'll never forget, but the family often worries that others will forget. Simply write a note to his parents and tell share some nice memories, tell them you miss and love him and that you'll always remember him. I assure you it will be appreciated. You sound like a very kind and compassionate person. It's wonderful that you want to turn your grief and sadness into something positive. Source(s): Mental health RN 2 years ago 67% 2 Votes

Can an employer turn you down because of mental health issues?

In the UK you are covered by the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and employers are not allowed to disadvantage you in anyway – if they do then you have the law on your side.Of course, common sense has to apply. For instance, suffering with depression in general would not stop most people functioning normally at most times – the most that would happen is that you may need an allowance made to any time allowed to you for sick leave. However, if someone had a history of violence bought on by a mental health issue and applied for a job in a gun shop (extreme example, I know) then it would be sensible for the potential employer to perhaps pass that person over, lest they want a blood bath. The way that the DDA works is that you notify your potential employer on your application form if YOU consider yourself to be disabled. The good news is that in the UK employers are starting on the whole to have a more sympathetic view of mental illness. If you suspect that you are being passed over for a job, or passed over for promotion whilst in a job, you can take the employer to court under the auspices of the DDA.Good luck. I'm a very high functioning one and when I am well (most of the time) no one would even know that I suffer. 4 years ago 1 person rated this as good Thanks

Should i get a masters in Mental health counseling?

- Chosen by Voters I would think it would be worth it – counseling is a growth industry…(why is that?)…more and more people need/want to speak to someone objective for a variety of reasons. You have very good income potential. I have seen private counseling session priced in the $80-$115 per hour range with masters degree counselors. There are also group sessions which can be quite lucrative. The important thing really is do you like this work and do you have a passion for it. That is the only reason to do this. It is tough work..sad many times and grueling mentally for yourself. You will need to find clietns and to both appeal to them and make them see the 'light' at the same time. Good luck! 4 years ago 100% 1 Vote

How do i get into work with adult mental health?

- Chosen by Voters This is not as easy as you think. To work in a hospital will require as a psychologist will require that you get a doctorate from an APA accredited school AND go to and APA accredited internship. It is very difficult since there is a huge flood of people going into the field right now. This last round of internships had 4000 applicants for 3000 sites, of which only a fraction are APA accredited. That 1000 surplus (of which I'm one) will be in next years pool, so even if nothing changes we are talking 5000 applicants for 3000 sites, but in reality classes have been getting larger every year, so we are actually looking at about 6000 applicants for 3000 sites. So going into mental health is becoming harder and harder every year. 8 months ago 100% 1 Vote
